The numbers are strong for the money. The thing worth understanding before you buy is that this is a hub-drive bike, and on a mountain bike that choice has consequences.
Hub drive on a mountain bike: the honest version
The Summit 1 drives the rear wheel directly rather than through the chain. That makes it simpler, cheaper and lower-maintenance than a mid-drive, and it is a large part of why this bike is $1,999 rather than $2,899.
The trade shows up on steep climbs. A hub motor has one effective gear no matter what your cassette does, so on a sustained steep climb it works harder and drains faster than a mid-drive doing the same job.
On flatter trails, fire roads and rolling terrain, you will not notice. On a long technical climb, you will. That is the whole decision, and it depends entirely on where you ride.
705.6 Wh and a genuinely long quoted range
The 113 to 153 km spread is one of the longest quoted ranges in our catalogue. Even discounting for optimism, real trail riding at 65 to 95 km is a long day out.
Battery capacity matters more off-road than on the road, because trail riding is harder on a motor. Steep, loose and slow is the most expensive kind of riding there is, so having 705.6 Wh in reserve is worth having.
A hardtail, and why that is the right call here
There is no rear suspension. On a $1,999 eMTB that is the correct decision, because cheap rear suspension is worse than none: heavier, more to go wrong, and rarely well damped.
A good hardtail with a decent fork handles most trails well. If you ride fast, rough descents regularly, you want full suspension, and that means spending closer to Turbo Levo money.

Hub drive, at the rear wheel. That keeps the price at $1,999 and the maintenance low. The trade is on steep sustained climbs, where a mid-drive uses the bike's gears and this cannot.
What is the real range on the Summit 1?
Velotric quotes 113 to 153 km from the 705.6 Wh battery. On real trails expect 65 to 95 km. Off-road riding is much harder on a battery than road riding, so the lower end of any quoted range is the realistic one.
Summit 1 or Aventon Ramblas?
The Summit 1 is $1,999 with a hub motor and a bigger quoted range. The Ramblas is $2,899 with a mid-drive and 100 Nm through the gears. If your riding involves real climbing, the Ramblas is worth the extra. If it is rolling trails and fire roads, save the money.
